I first became aware of Ed Ruscha’s work through the beautifully designed book ‘Cotton Puffs, Q-Tips, Smoke and Mirrors’, so the opportunity to see his new show ‘Ed Ruscha: 50 Years of Painting’ at the Hayward was too good to miss. (more…)

While most of us in the design industry have been effected by the economic downturn in some capacity and undoubtably, will continue to be until well into 2010, what if at the other end of this sticky patch the recession turns out to be not all bad?

From support character to leading role

While watching Quantum of Solace recently I found myself distracted by two things. Firstly, the logistics of getting a corpse covered in oil through a hotel lobby, into a lift and onto a bed without being noticed and secondly, along with most of the design community, the type used at the beginning of every location change.
