With its move to a much needed new larger space in the new Photographers Gallery, the Deutsche Börse Photography Prize should begin to gain the reputation it deserves. This years prize has four very different photographers on show across the two gallery spaces. The previous years have always impressed and it is a real cultural highlight for me as someone who is keenly interested in contemporary photography. (more…)

I first sat down to write this article in the wake of a project I had worked on, with the online shop Blanka, getting a sour reaction on the Creative Review blog. This Thursday (10 September) sees the opening of the Typographica exhibition at The Kemistry Gallery in London. The first exhibition of the eponymous graphic design journal. Ground-breaking when first published in 1949 and now considered legendary, Typographica showcased the very best in worldwide visual arts.

In 2001 if someone had asked me what saw myself doing in two years time I would have had a number of answers, all of them plucked out of thin air, but full of hope for my future career. If I had been pushed I would have loved to work at Intro, designing CD covers like the ones for Luke Slater and Primal Scream I loved so much. (more…)

For a generation of designers and illustrators the original Star Wars trilogy are THE films of their youth. Years ahead of the competition they were the last word in cool, as shown in their ability to be the first films to make more out of merchandise than showings and rentals. (more…)

The highlands of Scotland was the back drop to my first airing of the 2012 logo. I drove through the hills and listened to the controversy unfurl on the radio. Desperate to see what could cause so much scorn from so many people, I attempted in vain to get a picture on my shoddy phone. (more…)
