I walk to work each morning under the shadow of the very imposing structure of Guys Hospital. A building that looks too aggressive and hostile for its use as a hospital but fascinating as an example of 70’s architecture.

A few weeks ago I embarked on a motorbike tour of Scotland, armed with only the bare essentials and my motorbike. The trip would take me around the beautiful Scottish coastline covering 1,200 miles in 6 days.

2009 marks the 50th anniversary of the Cuban Revolution. It was on January 1st, 1959 that the dictator Fulgencio Batista was overthrown by a young revolutionary called Fidel Castro. Along with lieutenant Che Guevara and a small band of guerrilla fighters, Castro marched into the Cuban capital of Havana and seized the city.

This month the Government put a new law in place in a bid to reduce the 87,000 people prematurely killed in England each year by the effects of smoking. Cigarette packaging must now display shocking images including cancerous tumours, rotting lungs and clogged arteries, all in an attempt to encourage people to ‘kick the habit’. (more…)
