Julius Shulman, renowned Architectural photographer most famous for his depiction of Modernism across California, died in July of this year. Having just moved to the Golden State, it seemed only fitting that I attended a screening of Eric Brickers documentary ‘Visual Acoustics’ to learn a little more about a man so acclaimed and respected, particularly in this part of the world. I walk to work each morning under the shadow of the very imposing structure of Guys Hospital. A building that looks too aggressive and hostile for its use as a hospital but fascinating as an example of 70’s architecture.

New York this autumn has brought some amazing outdoor art offerings to its public: Pulse Park, an interactive light show in Madison Square Park by Mexican artist Rafael Lozano-Hemmer, then to celebrate the restoration of the Guggenheim Jenny Holzer created a light projection of her writings and poems that cascade over the museum’s exterior curves.
