Gary Hustwit’s directional debut, Helvetica used the typeface as a starting point for a film about graphic design. In my experience all but the type nerds were put off by the title, which was a shame as it was an ideal introduction to what graphic and type designers do and how they influence our visual landscape. As a designer, I’m always looking through portfolios belonging to other studios, students or other professionals such as photographers and animators. More often than not this is something I do online, since the internet has taken a central role in the way we promote ourselves.
